"Reflecting on the year 2020, Vera began the project  “Chertanovo Escape” (2020-2021), examining passing figures searching for hope and escape in Chertanovo, a brutal, monochromatic area in the south of Moscow. 

The work reflects on the search for fragments of satisfaction and joy in tough times. Celebrating that individual self-empowerment, she illuminates personal escapes in bursts of bright color and light, piercing more mundane, achromatic realities. That external quest becomes personal and autobiographical, a cheap digital video camera recording pieces of life. They exude a mood of serene melancholy and childlike innocence, edited together into a short experimental film with music by Berlin-based artist Peter Kirn."
